SYNOPSIS: A young couple's weekend getaway at a secluded mountain ranch becomes an unfathomable nightmare when they discover the truth about the caretaker.

Review: The Lodge is full of horror film cliches, even from just a quick description. A young couple travel to a cabin (well, lodge) in the woods for a short stay, only to find the owner a bit strange, and weird things like a pale bloodied girl being seen from a distant, start happening.

The cabin in the woods horror film template is perhaps the most used storyline in horror films from the last ten years or so. So something has to be really good or really original to stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately The Lodge is neither, but it's not a complete loss.

The couple are very generic, and probably could be replaced by almost any two actors without any noticeable difference to the film. They soon bump into the caretaker/owner of the lodge, who might aswell be holding a sign saying 'Actually a murderer'. It really is that obvious, i don't even consider mentioning it as a spoiler but i guess it's never supposed to be a big surprise. It still does make the couple look a bit stupid.
The addition of the creepy looking blonde girl, doesn't add much terror but more stupidity. Without giving away too much, why she look the way she does is never explained. Which is unfortunate as she could of become an interesting character.

Kevin McClatchy as the villan, Henry, at least shows a bit of charisma in what is a predictable role in a generally predictable movie. But the script is no help at all. In one scene he announces he's a pro at killing, been doing it for 16 years. And for someone that has been doing it for that long, he's not really very good at it, and makes so many mistakes!
